Essential Criteria for the Applicant
- Must be at least 67 years old to qualify for the old age pension. The secondary applicant, if included in the application, can be younger than 67 years.
- Must be the parent of an eligible child who is a settled
Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen. - Must be in Australia at the time of application.
- Must meet the Balance of family test .
- Must satisfy health and character requirements.
- Must not have applied for or hold a Sponsored Parent (Subclass 870) visa at the time of your application.
Essential Criteria for Parent Sponsor (Eligible Child)
Must be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen.
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
- Must be settled in Australia, i.e., living in Australia for at least the last two years as an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen.
- Must meet the character requirements.
- Sponsorship must be approved by the Department.
Duration of Stay
This is a permanent visa allowing holders to travel to and from Australia for the next 5 years. If eligible, applicants can apply for Australian citizenship.
